PCS recognises that younger athletes are significantly different in their physical, psychological and emotional make up and these differences should be well recognised by coaches and parents. Younger athletes are not miniature versions of adults; they are in fact a growing body metamorphosising both physically and psychologically with growth spurts, puberty and hormonal changes.
When coaching junior athletes, the emphasis should be on skill development, technique, routines and positive cycling habits. The emphasis on training volumes and intensities should be gradually increased with age and years in the sport. PCS is very conscious of the change in race demands from age category to age category and properly prepares athletes for each transition into the next age group accordingly. PCS works with both the junior athlete and parents to strike the right balance between training, schooling and other outside interests.
