Women
Ever notice something different between men and women? Well apart from the obvious there are actually more similarities than differences when preparing athletes for cycling competition, however it is still important that a women’s specific training program is developed. PCS has coached numerous female athletes with tremendous results including Lisa Mathison (2 x Junior World Champion 2003 & 2004), Lindsay Gorrell (U/23 National Champion 2008), Erica Oldfield (U/19 National Champion 2004 & Australian Representative and 2004 World Championships), Zoe King (National Series Leader 2006 & Australia Representative) and Jodie Willett (Australia Representative) just to name a few.
Within the female hormonal cycle there are many different phases which the body goes through including many physical and psychological changes. At certain times we can experience changes in mood resulting in increased stress, we are more accident prone, and have poor reaction times, poor perception of exertion, immune depression and lowered muscular endurance.
PCS has a strong understanding of how these phases can affect us and has developed strategies and methodologies incorporating them into our women’s specific MTB training programs. These work WITH the female hormonal cycle rather than against it to improve overall performance.
