Find out what you should do with your valuable “available” time to train

How many do you do

The number of days that a person rides or trains is subject to a great number of things such as work commitments, family life, racing schedule and to some extent your knowledge on the subject. Elite XC MTB riders on the World Cup circuit typically can crank out 6 or 7 days per week and up to 25 hours but for some of us the reality is that we may only be able to manage 1, 2 or 3 days per week of training.

What you should do to prepare for that BIG event!

Leave nothing to chance!

We hear it all the time – “If you fail to plan, then you plan to fail!”  We know it’s true but how many of us actually spend the time to prepare a detailed plan of the week leading into an important event such as the Club/State/National or World Championships?

New socks...anyone?

Have you ever stopped to think about how a brand new pair of socks makes you feel? Imagine that clean, fresh, crisp feel and smart look… Makes you feel pretty good doesn’t it? That feeling can also be gained when you use anything new for example, a new bike, set of new tyres, a new cycling outfit, a new helmet, some new gloves and the list goes on. Use this simple motivational strategy next time you race and harness the “new sock feeling” to help you feel GREAT.

Preparation is a process

There is a strong contingent of PCS athletes travelling to Atherton to contest this year’s Australian MTB Marathon Championships this coming weekend.  While preparations for this event over the last few months has included some big training weeks and specific climbing drills, the final week of preparation can be just as crucial. Get this last week wrong and it could cost you the race!

Stop Pedalling - Go Fast!

Matty Dall once said to me “Stop pedalling! You’ll ride much faster!”  Can you believe this guy, I thought he had rocks in his head but alas he turned out to be the smartest guy I know.  Until I asked him to explain himself I thought about signing him up to the closest mental institution.  Glad I didn’t because what he taught me helped me win my first serious race!
