2017 Junior World Champion - XCO and Professional Mountain Bike Athlete

Brief background

I always dreamt of winning a World XCO champs since I started riding at the age of 8. My idol was the late Burry Stander, a World champ mountain bike rider from South Africa, whom I still pay respect to in all his viral media posts “# I ride for Burry” . In 2017 I realized my dream competing as a first year u19 junior in 2017 Junior World Champs that was held in Cairns, Australia. A top 10 was a realistic goal in my first year as an junior so I could learn and build on this for a shot at the 2018 u19 World title. Well things went exceptionally well and according to plan and I managed to win the 2017 Junior World Champs convincingly by 35 seconds. 2018 was an interesting year having to defend my World Champs title in Switzerland, I spent 8 weeks at altitude preparing for this.

Unfortunately this was at a cost of no racing during this training period, but looking back I have learnt so much living, training and racing in Europe first year out of school. I secured a 6th which I was not entirely happy with, having won the year before. However had I not had the 8 weeks altitude training I believe this would have led to a worse result. I still managed to be the best performing Australian in all age categories and best performing non-European Junior
rider.

Moving into u23 age category for 2019 my focus was to continue racing Mountain Bike at a World level and another dream came true with a new team that gave me the opportunity to spend 4 months abroad racing Word Cup events in Germany, Czech Republic, France, Italy, the USA, Andorra, Switzerland, and many other places. This team who I currently race for is the Giant Factory Off Road Team which is sponsored by Giant Bicycles, Cuore of Switzerland for cycling kit, Fox Racing Suspension, Shimano/PRO componentry, Maxxis Tyres, ODI Grips, HT Pedals, 100% Eye Wear and gear. I am is also personally sponsored by Cornetts IGA Supermarkets, Progressive Coaching Systems, Ride Mechanic Australia for bike care products and 32Gi Australia for nutrition. I also race for Balmoral Elite road team in all road events outside my Mountain Bike commitments.
